Charity Quilts

Cosy Kiwi Kids
Capital Quilters nominated Charity for 2015/2016 is Cosy Kiwi Kids

BreastScreen Aotearoa

"Bosom Buddies" was gifted to Breast Screen Aotearoa in April 2013, replacing an existing quilt made by Capital Quilters more than 10 years ago that had begun to fade.  This quilt celebrates women sharing, supporting, and enjoying life together. The blocks of this quilt were made by members as a Block of the Month.  There was an overwhelming response with more than 70 blocks created.  As that was far too many for one quilt, two quilts were made.  Instead of raffling one of the quilts, Breast Screen Aotearoa  decided to display both quilts in separate clinic areas.

Neonatal Quilts for Wellington Hospital

For the April monthly meeting, guild members were asked to bring in quilts for the Neonatal Unit at Wellington Hospital.

Gillies McIndoe Research Institute

A Raffle was held in early 2013, with proceeds going to the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute.  The winner, drawn on May 18, 2013, was Michele Fahey of Upper Hutt.

Mr Paul Baines, Chairman of the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute, came to the August club meeting and spoke to us about the Institute, as well as received the donation from Pam Leslie who coordinated the project to make the raffle quilt to raise the money.

Waterloo School 75th Jubilee

Waterloo School, where Capital Quilters hold our monthly club meetings, are celebrating their 75th Jubilee.  "Morse Code" was made by Capital Quilters' members and quilted by Sue Burnett.  Jeanie O'Sullivan and Gaynor Eagles will hand over the quilt to Waterloo School for the school's 75th Jubilee on the 25th-27th October 2013.
